![]() Just by having an unprotected connection its like you dont have a front door on your house, and a big "CRIMINALS LOOT HERE" sign over that front door. You seem to be under the impression that you can peruse the internet safely without any kind of protection. Im just thinking one of the websites you visit regularly is compromised. if they did something like that they'd get locked down almost instantly. uploading it through steam would be the worst possible thing they could do since im pretty sure valve has a log of every update. Please, provide evidence that its linked to factorio other than 'only after you install it' claim, error reports and the like as for it containing malicous code. maybe rethink those "safe browsing and computer habits"? If this is satire, you have done a great job. I don't trust Wube Software A company has added malware to a game that is being played by thousands of people, none of whom have complained about similar problems, he claims, based on a thing that happened twice, and on a pc that he thinks does not need antivirus software because he only installs "very limited amount of things" and doesn't "download things typically". ![]() I like Factorio the game, but I won't be playing it anymore unless it goes open source. It's just the fact that so many other people are probably being infected by what has turned into the biggest security nightmare that we face today, Steam and other platforms like it where any scumbag can infect computers under the guise of selling video games. I don't care I have nothing "important" to lose, I will wipe this drive. ![]() That is likely what I am going to have to do again this time. Last time I had to format my HDD and run a clean install. I thought my Windows image was "corrupted" at first, whatever it is persists after doing a normal OS reset. I am smart enough to come to conclusions, unless I have been hacked long before and the hacker just waits until I install Factorio to start throwing a wrench into my computer. The company is based out of Czech Republic, that may or may not mean anything. Yes it is possible that I got hit with some kind of remote code execution from a website or file that I viewed but this has happened TWICE shortly after installing Factorio on steam. The only other third party software I have installed besides Steam is the Arduino programming IDE. The same exact thing as last time, which was something like 8 months ago. It also removes all the fonts in my task manager so I cant see proccesses and crashes sysinternals when I try to view disk, services, cpu activity. Im running a network sniffer but whatever it is disables itself when I take certain actions. I would bet 100,000$ that Wube Software is involved in illicit activity or they are deeply compromised by another party. Its the perfect attack vector to infect thousands or even hundreds of thousands of computers with zero effort. Steam just lets anyone push code and updates to their games with little or no oversight. I don't run bloated security software but I do practice safe browsing and computer habits.
